Safety First
Range safety and responsible practices are central to everything we do.
Read the SOPA community dedicated to safe, responsible firearms education and marksmanship.
The Red River Rifle and Pistol Club was established in January 1966 and originally met in the basement of the First National Bank in Burkburnett, Texas. According to founding member Jerry Burden, the meeting space was about the size of a phone booth.
The founding members of the club were Jerry McClure, Ted Peirce, Bill Alexander, Pete Negri, W.K. Clayton, and Jerry Burden.
The club’s first range was located off State Highway 240 and Vaughn Road. Due to the sale of that property, the range was relocated to Oklahoma on the Red River behind what was known as the Hill Top beer establishment. Shortly thereafter, the club purchased 10.4 acres of land known as Wild Horse Canyon, which remains the home of the range today.
